Philip, Winter is well and truly here – apologies if you’re not South African and didn’t get the
FIFA 2010 reference. This past week has been bone-chillingly cold, complete with the buckets of pelting rain Cape Town’s known for. Luckily there were lots of happy moments to keep us warm and happy…
Saturday, 11 July 2015: Mugg & Bean brekkie, Minions movie
While R40’s a bit steep for a glass of hot choc, I’m sure it’s delicious. My cappuccino, at half the price, did just as good a job of waking me up.
And to eat? The choc-chip flapjacks, every time for me, and the eggs ben for Husband. Took most of mine home for afternoon snack.
But first, BELLO! 🙂 Yes that’s me, front and centre with minions Stuart, Kevin and Bob – we finally watched the movie this time, unlike the last time I posed with them.
Husband enjoying his popcorn in the cinema. It’s just not the complete movie experience without over-salted popcorn that makes you cough.
And then we took a ‘3D glasses selfie’, as you do.
Sunday, 12 July 2015: Beach House Tavern brekkie and smug panda ‘biscwits’
Why yes, this is indeed a caramel latte at the Beach House Tavern at Lagoon Beach. The caramel syrup on top/inside was amazing. I’ll be back!
To eat, this breakfast bagel, comprising mayo, eggs, bacon, tomato and a pleasing amount of chips.
For tea, this combination did the trick. The box of ‘biscwits’ was more for the smug expression on panda Vinnie’s face, but they were delicious too. Yes, ‘were’ – meaning all gone now.
Mum’s sunny yellow chilli plant, which she uses to spice up our Sunday luppers.
Monday, 13 July 2015: Delightful place mats
I loved the place mats at Simply Delicious, the ‘home-cooked meals’ outlet we stopped at on Monday night for lasagne and salad.
Tuesday, 14 July 2015: Meet the Mad World chameleon
He’s real! We caught this little critter trying to dodge our attention in a tree outside our office building on Tuesday. I didn’t sing ‘ Karma chameleon‘ to him… at least, not loud enough for anyone else to hear 🙂
Wednesday, 15 July 2015: River Club press launch, Fire & Ice evening #ZomatoParty
My first visit at the recently renovated River Club in Obz called for a browse through the info brochure while waiting for the event I was attending to begin – read all about it here.
This is how the #ZomatoParty started at the Protea Fire & Ice, once we’d handed over our ‘Madiba Day entry fee’ of socks and non-perishables for the homeless: A portion of pesto gnocchi. So very delicious we went looking for more but didn’t find any. Sob.
Tiny cups of tasty minestrone soup…
Husband kindly demonstrating just how tiny they were. So cute!
Look at the pretty ‘dessert’ table they set up! The milkshake tots went down a treat, even with a jello tot surprise in the vanilla ones.
Completely full, we did try the pink vanilla martinis but left before the tomato-topped red velvet birthday cake made an appearance.
Thursday, 16 July 2015: Business meetings at Winchester Mansions, Sea Point
Thursday’s agenda included a midday business cappuccino break at the Winchester Mansions in Sea Point.
The view, if you were brave enough to sit outside. It was sunny and I was sunny-less, so did not last long.
Back in the office, the chocolate cake in the coffee shop downstairs was calling my name. Well worth the R15 I parted with for it. The owlie mug was not impressed.
Friday, 17 July 2015: Holiday excursion to the Old Biscuit Mill
Friday dawned rainy, cold and with me on leave. As a result, I joined the parents for breakfast at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, right around the corner from my new office. Mum was giggling at her own joke, that Dad’s fancy ham and cheese sandwich was ‘ham-packed’ (instead of ‘jam-packed’, geddit? Packed with ham? Teehee!)
These are coffees from the scientific-looking Espressolab coffee roasters right next to Saucisse deli.
My almond paste-filled croissant and stirred cappuccino. Yummy!
Saucisse, or ‘the deli’, where we breakfasted.
That’s all, folks. The truly Wintery weather’s set to continue all weekend so we’re sure to be in hibernation mode for much of it, hope you do, too.
