Moving weekend: sad dogs and several succulent burgers

And so, we moved. We’d plotted, planned, paid, gnashed teeth, wrung hands and jumped with joy for months leading up to this point, and finally last weekend – well, Monday to be exact – was the day of the move. Saturday and Sunday were a frenzy of packing, Monday was a flurry of actually moving – all just us doing the lifting, loading and unpacking. We made eight trips with the bakkie we hired for the day, thank you very much. Then Tuesday was all about unpacking, and the rest of week saw us both back at work full-day but still taking delivery of things, having our Telkom line moved, having folk over to take wall measurements, sorting all sorts of insurance, trying out new bus routes, having blood tests and medical check-ups done for life insurance and finally, me nursing my aching (pre-arthritic) fingers and waiting for them to recover enough to post this update. So, here it is, for your viewing pleasure…

Friday, 28 November: Friday pie day and final beach visit from old side of town

Did you know your local BP Express runs a Friday pie day special? Two pies, usually R16 each, for the grand total sum of R22. It'll do for dins when your pantry is bare and all your cutlery and crockery is packed away.

Saturday, 29 November 2014: Doggies concerned at all the packing; burgers and shakes at Royale Eatery

We up-ended and dismantled all the big outdoor furniture on Saturday as we had to keep doglets occupied outside while we had a team of cleaners busy with carpets and windows inside. Note the swing bench seat is flat on the grass. Bassie looks worried, Bertie's just interested in getting some of his dad's Vanilla Cola.

Mattress, meet lounge furniture. With the carpets all professionally cleaned we moved the bed to the lounge for the weekend

Having done as much as we could, we headed to Royale Eatery to treat ourselves to their burgers and shakes, as they'd been recommended to us twice in the space of a week. That's my 600ml choc-coconut shake... wasn't brave enough to try the avo-mint variety. Sadly the burgers didn't photograph well but take my word for it - delicious!

Bassie and Bertie got increasingly worried as they saw the last of their things being packed up.

Sunday, 30 November 2014: News Cafe breakfast, Driftwood Cafe drinks

We were up early enough for the early bird News Cafe breakfast special I've written about before. This is me gleefully pouring espresso into hot milk to create a latte.

That's a happy face as Husband has his early bird breakfast, with a Coke, as you do.

Dogs decided to immerse themselves in bedding piled on the couch. Bertie's easy to spot, gnawing his own leg, but I bet it'll take a while before you spot Bassie..

With the last box packed, we headed down to the Driftwood Cafe. They were closed but took pity on our sad faces. Here's my strawberry shake and Husband's Castle Draught

Monday, 1 December 2014: Moving day!

My only shot of the move. This was our last load from old house to new house - dog kennel on the back of the bakkie.

First housewarming gifts! Not only did mum and dad look after the doglets at their house all day to minimise the canine stress levels, they also ordered us a dishwasher in silver, to match our existing appliances, AND came over that afternoon to help construct beds and put up curtains... along with this welcome housewarming gift of freshly ground coffee and homemade chocolate-chunk muffins!

Tuesday, 2 December: Unpacking day!

We awoke bright and early on our last day of leave and headed to Reload in Parklands for a spot of brekkie. Here is Husband about to douse his Turkish omelette in Tabasco sauce

Thursday, 4 December 2014: Team lunch with lovely colleagues

With many options bandied about, we decided to try Touch of Madness in Observatory for our final (my first, teehee) team lunch of the year. Good prices , lots of laughter and great tastes meant it was a wonderful afternoon. That's my homemade apple, pear and ginger juice. Delicious and very pulpy.

After lots of dithering I went for the 'Cheezy cheese burger' with wedges. Tasted even better than it looks!

Note the neon orange blob? It was a drop of the peri peri sauce on offer. Ridiculously burny. Husband would love it.

There you have it! The doggies are more settled each day and we’re slowly but surely getting rid of the pile of boxes to unpack. It helps that mother-in-law is visiting from tomorrow so we’ve been spurred into action – expect some pics of the new housie in my next update. Over and out!
